File

  • New - creates new file
  • Open - opens a file
  • Save - saves the current file
  • Save As... - saves the current file to a different file name
  • Exit - closes the program

View

  • Drag and Drop Mode - allows a user to be able to drag and drop items without unchecking multiple items. When checked, the 4 menu items below are affected. First, the state of the menu items are saved. Then they are set to unchecked and disabled. When Drag and Drop Mode is unchecked the previous state of the 3 menu items are restored.

  • Auto Hide - automatically minimizes the program to the system tray. The program is minimized to the system tray when one of the following actions occur:
    • Pressing ESC (escape key) while the program has focus
    • Clicking on the [x] box in the upper-right corner of the program window)
    • Pressing a key or clicking on a button to launch a program
  • Always On Top - makes the program the top-most window
  • Always Center on Screen - automatically centers the program in your screen
  • Hide Empty Tab Buttons - hides empty tab buttons
  • Show Favorites Bar - shows or hides the favorites bar
  • Show Tab Numbers - shows the corresponding tab numbers on each tab
  • Accessibility Feature - displays buttons' key as the buttons' text. This feature enables some screen readers to identify which button has the current focus
  • Refresh Icons - refreshed icons of programs, files, and folders that were not available when MadAppLauncher was started. This is only useful if you have links that are on USB drives or network shares that are not always accessible and when using mal files on different computers

Settings

  • HotKey - opens the HotKey configuration dialog box. You can change the key combination used to activate the program in this dialog box. The default is Ctrl + ` (tilde)
    • Activate tab - activates the specified tab (*only applies when using the hotkey)
  • Options
    • General tab
      • Press key twice to launch a program - check this if you are accidentally launching files. Two consecutive key presses are needed to launch a file. Pressing QQ will launch the file assigned to the Q button. Pressing a different second key will reset the detection
      • Auto save file (*.mal) - when checked, data files(*.mal) are saved automatically. If the current file is Untitled, you will be prompted to save the file once. Files are auto-saved when selecting File | New/Open/Exit, when rebooting or shutting down the OS, and when checking the Auto-save option.

        Update: As of version 1.0.1.0 - this option is set to ON by default AND will save the file on every change.

      • Show window on startup - if this option is unchecked, the main window will not be displayed when the program is first launched
      • Show in taskbar when minimized - (default=off) shows the taskbar button when the window is minimized or closed.
      • Auto select tab - enables other ways to select tabs
        • On mouse over -
        • On mouse shake - shaking the mouse selects the tab under the mouse pointer

          Note: You can also use the mouse wheel to switch tabs

        • Maximum button text displayed (Default=512) - set the value to 0 (zero) to hide the text or set the maximum number of characters to display. If the value is less than the length of a button's text, the complete text will be displayed on a tooltip when the button gets focus.
        • Drag and Drop tab activation delay (ms) - amount of time to for a tab to be selected when the mouse pointer is over it. This option only works when dragging and dropping buttons/links.
        • Minimize on Close - (default=on) if checked, window is minimized when closing using the UI. Otherwise, the program will be closed.
        • Check for updates on startup - (default=on) if checked, updates will be checked on startup

Help

  • Help - opens this web site in a web browser
  • Check for new version - checks for a new version and prompts to open website
  • Visit Website - opens the program's website using your default Internet browser
  • About - shows information about the program (i.e. version number, author, license, etc.)

Button (Context Menu: right-click)

  • Open file location - opens the folder where the program assigned to the button is located
  • Edit - edits the properties
  • Cut - copies the properties to the clipboard then deletes them
  • Copy - copies the properties for pasting to another button
  • Paste - pastes the properties currently on the clipboard
  • Delete - deletes the properties

Tab (Context Menu: right-click)

  • Rename - renames the tab text/title
  • Copy - copies the tab and its contents to the internal clipboard Warning: this operation uses an internal clipboard due to a problem with 32-bit operating systems. Closing the application will clear the copied tab from the internal clipboard.
  • Paste - pastes the tab and its contents currently on the clipboard to the specified tab after confirmation
  • Delete - clears the tab text/title and all its buttons' contents after confirmation
  • Sort buttons by Name/Target - sorts a tab's buttons
